141
ﺗِﻠْﻚَ ﺍُﻣَّﺔٌ ﻗَﺪْ ﺧَﻠَﺖْ ۚ ﻟَﻬَﺎ ﻣَﺎ ﻛَﺴَﺒَﺖْ ﻭَﻟَﻜُﻢْ ﻣَّﺎ
ﻛَﺴَﺒْﺘُﻢْ ۚ ﻭَﻟَﺎ ﺗُﺴْـَٔﻠُﻮْﻥَ ﻋَﻤَّﺎ ﻛَﺎﻧُﻮْﺍ ﻳَﻌْﻤَﻠُﻮْﻥَ ۔
tilka ummatung qad khalat, lahā mā kasabat
wa lakum mā kasabtum, wa lā tus`alụna
'ammā kānụ ya'malụn
That's the people of the past. For him what they
worked for and for you what you worked for. And
you will not be held accountable for what they used
to do.
142
۞ ﺳَﻴَﻘُﻮْﻝُ ﺍﻟﺴُّﻔَﻬَﺎۤﺀُ ﻣِﻦَ ﺍﻟﻨَّﺎﺱِ ﻣَﺎ ﻭَﻟّٰﻯﻬُﻢْ
ﻋَﻦْ ﻗِﺒْﻠَﺘِﻬِﻢُ ﺍﻟَّﺘِﻲْ ﻛَﺎﻧُﻮْﺍ ﻋَﻠَﻴْﻬَﺎ ۗ ﻗُﻞْ ﻟِّﻠّٰﻪِ
ﺍﻟْﻤَﺸْﺮِﻕُ ﻭَﺍﻟْﻤَﻐْﺮِﺏُۗ ﻳَﻬْﺪِﻱْ ﻣَﻦْ ﻳَّﺸَﺎۤﺀُ ﺍِﻟٰﻰ
ﺻِﺮَﺍﻁٍ ﻣُّﺴْﺘَﻘِﻴْﻢٍ
sayaqụlus-sufahā`u minan-nāsi mā wallāhum
'ang qiblatihimullatī kānụ 'alaihā, qul lillāhil-
masyriqu wal-magrib, yahdī may yasyā`u ilā
ṣirāṭim mustaqīm
The ignorant among mankind will say, "What turned
them (Muslims) away from the Qiblah they used to
(Qiblah) to?" Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Unto
Allah belongeth the east and the west; He guides
whom He wills to the straight path. ”
143
ﻭَﻛَﺬٰﻟِﻚَ ﺟَﻌَﻠْﻨٰﻜُﻢْ ﺍُﻣَّﺔً ﻭَّﺳَﻄًﺎ ﻟِّﺘَﻜُﻮْﻧُﻮْﺍ
ﺷُﻬَﺪَﺍۤﺀَ ﻋَﻠَﻰ ﺍﻟﻨَّﺎﺱِ ﻭَﻳَﻜُﻮْﻥَ ﺍﻟﺮَّﺳُﻮْﻝُ
ﻋَﻠَﻴْﻜُﻢْ ﺷَﻬِﻴْﺪًﺍ ۗ ﻭَﻣَﺎ ﺟَﻌَﻠْﻨَﺎ ﺍﻟْﻘِﺒْﻠَﺔَ ﺍﻟَّﺘِﻲْ
ﻛُﻨْﺖَ ﻋَﻠَﻴْﻬَﺎٓ ﺍِﻟَّﺎ ﻟِﻨَﻌْﻠَﻢَ ﻣَﻦْ ﻳَّﺘَّﺒِﻊُ ﺍﻟﺮَّﺳُﻮْﻝَ
ﻣِﻤَّﻦْ ﻳَّﻨْﻘَﻠِﺐُ ﻋَﻠٰﻰ ﻋَﻘِﺒَﻴْﻪِۗ ﻭَﺍِﻥْ ﻛَﺎﻧَﺖْ ﻟَﻜَﺒِﻴْﺮَﺓً
ﺍِﻟَّﺎ ﻋَﻠَﻰ ﺍﻟَّﺬِﻳْﻦَ ﻫَﺪَﻯ ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪُ ۗﻭَﻣَﺎ ﻛَﺎﻥَ ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪُ
ﻟِﻴُﻀِﻴْﻊَ ﺍِﻳْﻤَﺎﻧَﻜُﻢْ ۗ ﺍِﻥَّ ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪَ ﺑِﺎﻟﻨَّﺎﺱِ ﻟَﺮَﺀُﻭْﻑٌ
ﺭَّﺣِﻴْﻢٌ
wa każālika ja'alnākum ummataw wasaṭal
litakụnụ syuhadā`a 'alan-nāsi wa yakụnar-
rasụlu 'alaikum syahīdā, wa mā ja'alnal-
qiblatallatī kunta 'alaihā illā lina'lama may
yattabi'ur-rasụla mim may yangqalibu 'alā
'aqibaīh, wa ing kānat lakabīratan illā
'alallażīna hadallāh, wa mā kānallāhu liyuḍī'a
īmānakum, innallāha bin-nāsi lara`ụfur raḥīm
And thus have We made you (Muslims) a "middle
nation" that you may be a witness over (the deeds
of) mankind and that the Messenger (Muhammad)
may be a witness over (the deeds) of you. We did
not make the Qiblah to which you (before) (Qiblah)
except that We know who follows the Messenger
and who turns back. Indeed, (the transfer of Qibla)
is very difficult, except for those who have been
guided by Allah. And Allah will not waste your
faith. Indeed, Allah is Most Merciful, Most
Compassionate to mankind.
144
ﻗَﺪْ ﻧَﺮٰﻯ ﺗَﻘَﻠُّﺐَ ﻭَﺟْﻬِﻚَ ﻓِﻰ ﺍﻟﺴَّﻤَﺎۤﺀِۚ
ﻓَﻠَﻨُﻮَﻟِّﻴَﻨَّﻚَ ﻗِﺒْﻠَﺔً ﺗَﺮْﺿٰﻯﻬَﺎ ۖ ﻓَﻮَﻝِّ ﻭَﺟْﻬَﻚَ
ﺷَﻄْﺮَ ﺍﻟْﻤَﺴْﺠِﺪِ ﺍﻟْﺤَﺮَﺍﻡِ ۗ ﻭَﺣَﻴْﺚُ ﻣَﺎ ﻛُﻨْﺘُﻢْ
ﻓَﻮَﻟُّﻮْﺍ ﻭُﺟُﻮْﻫَﻜُﻢْ ﺷَﻄْﺮَﻩٗ ۗ ﻭَﺍِﻥَّ ﺍﻟَّﺬِﻳْﻦَ ﺍُﻭْﺗُﻮﺍ
ﺍﻟْﻜِﺘٰﺐَ ﻟَﻴَﻌْﻠَﻤُﻮْﻥَ ﺍَﻧَّﻪُ ﺍﻟْﺤَﻖُّ ﻣِﻦْ ﺭَّﺑِّﻬِﻢْ ۗ ﻭَﻣَﺎ
ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪُ ﺑِﻐَﺎﻓِﻞٍ ﻋَﻤَّﺎ ﻳَﻌْﻤَﻠُﻮْﻥَ
qad narā taqalluba waj-hika fis-samā`, fa
lanuwalliyannaka qiblatan tarḍāhā fa walli
waj-haka syaṭral-masjidil-ḥarām, wa ḥaiṡu mā
kuntum fa wallụ wujụhakum syaṭrah, wa
innallażīna ụtul-kitāba laya'lamụna annahul-
ḥaqqu mir rabbihim, wa mallāhu bigāfilin
'ammā ya'malụn
We see your face (Muhammad) often looking up to
the sky, so We will turn you to a Qiblah that
pleases you. So turn your face towards the Sacred
Mosque. And wherever you are, turn your face in
that direction. And verily those to whom the
Scripture is given know that it is the Truth from
their Lord. And Allah is not unmindful of what they
do.
145
ﻭَﻟَﻯِٕﻦْ ﺍَﺗَﻴْﺖَ ﺍﻟَّﺬِﻳْﻦَ ﺍُﻭْﺗُﻮﺍ ﺍﻟْﻜِﺘٰﺐَ ﺑِﻜُﻞِّ ﺍٰﻳَﺔٍ
ﻣَّﺎ ﺗَﺒِﻌُﻮْﺍ ﻗِﺒْﻠَﺘَﻚَ ۚ ﻭَﻣَﺎٓ ﺍَﻧْﺖَ ﺑِﺘَﺎﺑِﻊٍ ﻗِﺒْﻠَﺘَﻬُﻢْ ۚ
ﻭَﻣَﺎ ﺑَﻌْﻀُﻬُﻢْ ﺑِﺘَﺎﺑِﻊٍ ﻗِﺒْﻠَﺔَ ﺑَﻌْﺾٍۗ ﻭَﻟَﻯِٕﻦِ
ﺍﺗَّﺒَﻌْﺖَ ﺍَﻫْﻮَﺍۤﺀَﻫُﻢْ ﻣِّﻦْۢ ﺑَﻌْﺪِ ﻣَﺎﺟَﺎۤﺀَﻙَ ﻣِﻦَ
ﺍﻟْﻌِﻠْﻢِ ۙ ﺍِﻧَّﻚَ ﺍِﺫًﺍ ﻟَّﻤِﻦَ ﺍﻟﻈّٰﻠِﻤِﻴْﻦَ ۘ
wa la`in ataitallażīna ụtul-kitāba bikulli
āyatim mā tabi'ụ qiblatak, wa mā anta
bitābi'ing qiblatahum, wa mā ba'ḍuhum
bitābi'ing qiblata ba'ḍ, wa la`inittaba'ta
ahwā`ahum mim ba'di mā jā`aka minal-'ilmi
innaka iżal laminaẓ-ẓālimīn
And even if you (Muhammad) give all the verses
(information) to those who were given the Book,
they will not follow your Qibla, and you will not
follow their Qibla. Some of them will not follow the
Qibla, some of them will. And if you follow their
wishes after you reach knowledge, you will surely
be among the wrongdoers.
146
ﺍَﻟَّﺬِﻳْﻦَ ﺍٰﺗَﻴْﻨٰﻬُﻢُ ﺍﻟْﻜِﺘٰﺐَ ﻳَﻌْﺮِﻓُﻮْﻧَﻪٗ ﻛَﻤَﺎ ﻳَﻌْﺮِﻓُﻮْﻥَ
ﺍَﺑْﻨَﺎۤﺀَﻫُﻢْ ۗ ﻭَﺍِﻥَّ ﻓَﺮِﻳْﻘًﺎ ﻣِّﻨْﻬُﻢْ ﻟَﻴَﻜْﺘُﻤُﻮْﻥَ ﺍﻟْﺤَﻖَّ
ﻭَﻫُﻢْ ﻳَﻌْﻠَﻤُﻮْﻥَ
allażīna ātaināhumul-kitāba ya'rifụnahụ kamā
ya'rifụna abnā`ahum, wa inna farīqam min-
hum layaktumụnal-ḥaqqa wa hum ya'lamụn
Those to whom We have given the Book (Torah
and Injeel) know him (Muhammad) as they know
their own children. Indeed, some of them will hide
the truth, even though they know (it).
147
ﺍَﻟْﺤَﻖُّ ﻣِﻦْ ﺭَّﺑِّﻚَ ﻓَﻠَﺎ ﺗَﻜُﻮْﻧَﻦَّ ﻣِﻦَ ﺍﻟْﻤُﻤْﺘَﺮِﻳْﻦَ
al-ḥaqqu mir rabbika fa lā takụnanna minal-
mumtarīn
The truth is from your Lord, so do not be one of
those who doubt.
148
ﻭَﻟِﻜُﻞٍّ ﻭِّﺟْﻬَﺔٌ ﻫُﻮَ ﻣُﻮَﻟِّﻴْﻬَﺎ ﻓَﺎﺳْﺘَﺒِﻘُﻮﺍ
ﺍﻟْﺨَﻴْﺮٰﺕِۗ ﺍَﻳْﻦَ ﻣَﺎ ﺗَﻜُﻮْﻧُﻮْﺍ ﻳَﺄْﺕِ ﺑِﻜُﻢُ ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪُ
ﺟَﻤِﻴْﻌًﺎ ۗ ﺍِﻥَّ ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪَ ﻋَﻠٰﻰ ﻛُﻞِّ ﺷَﻲْﺀٍ ﻗَﺪِﻳْﺮٌ
wa likulliw wij-hatun huwa muwallīhā
fastabiqul-khairāt, aina mā takụnụ ya`ti
bikumullāhu jamī'ā, innallāha 'alā kulli
syai`ing qadīr
And every ummah has a qibla that he faces. So
compete in goodness. Wherever you are, surely
God will gather you all. Indeed, Allah is Almighty
over all things.
149
ﻭَﻣِﻦْ ﺣَﻴْﺚُ ﺧَﺮَﺟْﺖَ ﻓَﻮَﻝِّ ﻭَﺟْﻬَﻚَ ﺷَﻄْﺮَ
ﺍﻟْﻤَﺴْﺠِﺪِ ﺍﻟْﺤَﺮَﺍﻡِ ۗ ﻭَﺍِﻧَّﻪٗ ﻟَﻠْﺤَﻖُّ ﻣِﻦْ ﺭَّﺑِّﻚَ ۗ
ﻭَﻣَﺎ ﺍﻟﻠّٰﻪُ ﺑِﻐَﺎﻓِﻞٍ ﻋَﻤَّﺎ ﺗَﻌْﻤَﻠُﻮْﻥَ
wa min ḥaiṡu kharajta fa walli waj-haka
syaṭral-masjidil-ḥarām, wa innahụ lal-ḥaqqu
mir rabbik, wa mallāhu bigāfilin 'ammā
ta'malụn
And from whatsoever place thou wilt go forth, turn
thy face towards the Sacred Mosque. Lo! That is a
decree from thy Lord. Allah is not unaware of what
you do.
150
ﻭَﻣِﻦْ ﺣَﻴْﺚُ ﺧَﺮَﺟْﺖَ ﻓَﻮَﻝِّ ﻭَﺟْﻬَﻚَ ﺷَﻄْﺮَ
ﺍﻟْﻤَﺴْﺠِﺪِ ﺍﻟْﺤَﺮَﺍﻡِ ۗ ﻭَﺣَﻴْﺚُ ﻣَﺎ ﻛُﻨْﺘُﻢْ ﻓَﻮَﻟُّﻮْﺍ
ﻭُﺟُﻮْﻫَﻜُﻢْ ﺷَﻄْﺮَﻩٗ ۙ ﻟِﺌَﻠَّﺎ ﻳَﻜُﻮْﻥَ ﻟِﻠﻨَّﺎﺱِ ﻋَﻠَﻴْﻜُﻢْ
ﺣُﺠَّﺔٌ ﺍِﻟَّﺎ ﺍﻟَّﺬِﻳْﻦَ ﻇَﻠَﻤُﻮْﺍ ﻣِﻨْﻬُﻢْ ﻓَﻠَﺎ ﺗَﺨْﺸَﻮْﻫُﻢْ
ﻭَﺍﺧْﺸَﻮْﻧِﻲْ ﻭَﻟِﺎُﺗِﻢَّ ﻧِﻌْﻤَﺘِﻲْ ﻋَﻠَﻴْﻜُﻢْ ﻭَﻟَﻌَﻠَّﻜُﻢْ
ﺗَﻬْﺘَﺪُﻭْﻥَۙ
wa min ḥaiṡu kharajta fa walli waj-haka
syaṭral-masjidil-ḥarām, wa ḥaiṡu mā kuntum
fa wallụ wujụhakum syaṭrahụ li`allā yakụna
lin-nāsi 'alaikum ḥujjatun illallażīna ẓalamụ
min-hum fa lā takhsyauhum wakhsyaunī wa
li`utimma ni'matī 'alaikum wa la'allakum
tahtadụn
And whithersoever thou goest forth, turn thy face
towards the Sacred Mosque. And wherever you are,
turn your face towards it, so that there will be no
excuse for people (against you), except those who
are unjust among them. Do not fear them, but fear
Me, that I may complete My favor upon you, and
that you may be guided.
